How to extract text from a PDF
- Click Choose PDF.
- Click Extract text.
- Copy the text with one click or download it as a .txt file.
Edit the content in Word or Google Docs
A PDF is made for reading, not editing. When you need to rewrite a document, quote a long passage or reuse the content, extract the text and paste it into Word, Google Docs or any editor. With Mark where each page starts, you always know which page each part came from.
Scanned PDFs
If the PDF is a scan or a photo of a document, the “text” is actually an image and can't be extracted without OCR (optical character recognition). The tool tells you when that happens. To simply write on a scanned document, use Edit PDF.
Private
The text is read in your browser; the PDF isn't uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Does it keep the formatting?
It extracts plain text, in reading order. Bold, columns and tables are not kept, which makes the text easy to paste anywhere.
Why does it say almost no text was found?
The PDF is probably scanned: its pages are images. Extracting that text requires OCR, which this tool doesn't do.
Can I extract text from several PDFs at once?
Yes. Choose them all; each one gets its own text.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up.
