How to make a passport size photo

1. Take a photo against a plain white or light wall, face to the camera, in good daylight. Ask someone else to take it, at eye level, from about 1.5 m away.
2. Click Choose photo and position the rectangle: top of the head near the top edge, chin about a fifth of the way up from the bottom.
3. Click Make passport photo. You get the single photo (for online forms) and the 4 × 6 in sheet with 6 photos.
4. Print the sheet at actual size (100%) on 4 × 6 photo paper and cut along the lines.

Passport size photo dimensions

• In mm and cm: 35 × 45 mm = 3.5 × 4.5 cm.
• In inches: about 1.38 × 1.77 in.
• In pixels: 413 × 531 px at 300 DPI (for printing); online forms often accept smaller files.
• Face: usually 70–80% of the photo height, from chin to crown.

35 × 45 mm is the standard “passport size” in India, the UK, the EU, Australia, Pakistan, Nigeria and many other countries. The US uses 2 × 2 in — use the 2×2 photo maker for that.

Where you can use it

• Application forms for jobs, colleges, exams and scholarships.
• Bank, SIM and KYC forms, ID cards, membership and travel passes.
• UK passport online: the UK accepts a digital photo you take yourself (with someone's help), at least 600 × 750 px and 50 KB–10 MB, but it must be unaltered by software — so upload the original photo straight to the online service and use this tool for printed copies.
• Indian passport: for applications at a Passport Seva Kendra, the photo is normally captured at the centre; printed photos are still needed for some other forms.

Official rules (background colour, glasses, expression, how recent the photo must be) differ by country and document. Check the requirements of the office you are applying to — some only accept photos from approved studios.
