How to reduce a PDF to 100 KB
- Click Choose PDF.
- Click Compress to 100 KB. The tool tries the gentlest compression first and only goes further when needed.
- Download the file and check that it is readable before uploading.
Where the 100 KB limit appears
Many online application portals — government services, competitive exams, scholarships, university admissions — accept each supporting document (certificates, mark sheets, ID proof) only up to 100 KB. The limit exists to keep their servers light, but a single page scanned by a phone is often 1–3 MB. The rules of each portal vary, so always check the instructions of the form you are filling in.
What fits in 100 KB
- A text PDF (exported from Word or Google Docs): usually dozens of pages.
- One or two scanned pages: fits comfortably with the automatic compression.
- Several scanned pages: may need the pages turned into compressed images (the tool does this only if needed) or splitting the document.
Tips when 100 KB is hard to reach
- Upload only the pages required. Remove covers and blank pages with Delete PDF Pages.
- Scan in grayscale at 150–200 DPI instead of colour at 300 DPI — the file is several times smaller and still sharp.
- Crop the margins of photographed documents with Crop PDF: less background, fewer KB.
- Starting from photos? Compress them first with Compress Image and then convert with JPG to PDF.
The rest stays private
The PDF is compressed in your browser. Certificates and ID documents never leave your device.
Frequently asked questions
Can any PDF be reduced to 100 KB?
Most one- and two-page documents can. Long scanned documents may not fit in 100 KB while staying readable; in that case remove unnecessary pages or split the file.
Will my PDF still be readable?
The tool always looks for the best quality that fits. If it would have to make the text unreadable to reach 100 KB, it tells you and gives you the smallest readable result.
Is 100 KB the same as 0.1 MB?
Yes. We count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so the file is under the limit on any website.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no watermark.
