How to number the pages of a PDF
- Click Choose PDF.
- Choose the position: bottom centre, bottom right, bottom left or top right.
- Choose the format: 1, 2, 3, 1 / 10 or Page 1 of 10.
- In More options, set the size, the starting number and how many first pages shouldn't show a number.
- Click Add page numbers and download.
Skip the cover and title page
Theses, dissertations and reports usually count the cover and title page but don't show a number on them. Use “Don't show the number on the first…”: if you type 2, pages 1 and 2 are counted but stay clean, and numbering appears from page 3 (showing “3”). To start the visible count at 1 after the cover, change Start counting at.
Good for
- Essays, theses and dissertations that follow APA, MLA or a university style guide.
- Legal bundles and exhibits, where every page must be referenced.
- Reports, manuals and handouts that will be printed.
- Merged documents: combine the files with Merge PDF first, then number them all at once.
Clean and private
The numbers are added as real text, sharp at any zoom, with no watermark. The PDF is processed in your browser, without being uploaded.
